Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 7, 1869

Overview

Richard remains disturbed by the court session but continues working, while Cosima spends Sunday with the children and finds relief in Eva's recovery. A walk with Richard and Loldi briefly steadies the day. Cosima's own health collapses into exhaustion, and Schopenhauer's ethics does not answer the anxious question of whether she will regain the children.

Sunday, March 7:

R. still very much affected by the court session, but does some work. I with the children, who eat with us. After lunch a walk with Loldi and R.

Eva is well again. I feel very unwell and have to lie down. R. reads me a chapter from Schopenhauer, “Ethics.” Shall I ever get the children? I am quite worn out.
