Wednesday, December 27:
Blandine’s inexplicable silence causes very embarrassing upset. But at last, as around lunchtime I am attending my father’s sitting for Herr Wolkoff, Fidi comes to tell me that Bl. has received everything, but the telegraph lines were cut. R. came in at first, but when he saw that my father was at the piano and being drawn at the same time, he went away at once, and later told me how disagreeable he found this sight.
In the afternoon we go out and experience a sunset such as can only be seen here. Count Contin visits us; I receive him; the engagement of friend Humperdinck turns out to be quite impossible! In the evening R. does not feel well; he has been drinking beer and champagne. I think that all the disturbance of the moving - we have installed my father on this side of the house - upset him, too. In the evening Ada Pinelli visits us, but not until somewhat later does R. take some part in the conversation.
