Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 26, 1882

Overview

Post-Christmas irritations return immediately in the form of unanswered thanks, missing gowns, and awkward commitments to Humperdinck. The day is slight in incident but heavy in atmosphere.

Content

Tuesday, December 26:

R. had a good night’s rest, but he is upset by not receiving an answer from Boni, even after my inquiry - he wonders whether his gift has arrived. Also the nonarrival of a Worth gown for me annoys him, and his overhastiness in summoning Humperdinck here (he is not to be engaged because of patriotic indignation in connection with Oberdank) embarrasses him. Whist in the evening.
