Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 15, 1882

Overview

Business letters and rehearsals fill the day, while Gobineau and R. continue roaming across large civilizational questions such as Persia and Europe's limits. The atmosphere is active but burdened, more dutiful than joyful.

Content

Monday, May 15:

R. had a good night’s rest, but again he has letters from Batz to vex him. I am very busy with rehearsals for the three plays. R. is still carrying on lively conversations with the Count, and when the latter praises the Persians so highly, R. raises the question whether it would be possible for us Europeans to become intimate with them. The Count thinks not.
