Thursday, March 16:
R. slept well. Our talk is devoted to Boni, and with some concern. At 12 o’clock I drive to see Countess Tasca, who has taken over from Countess Mazzarino the office of go-between! During our discussion R. goes for a walk with Fidi in the Flora. The condition I make, in view of the Count’s unsettled financial situation, is that he take up some occupation.
In the afternoon, since we have decided to round off our stay in Porrazzi with a musical reception for our friends, there is a rehearsal of the Idyll. A horrible orchestra, and yet great delight in the work. Memories of blissful times, also of my father, whose joyful approval of the Idyll, R. says, showed him what a rare being he is and how utterly different from anyone else.
