Monday, March 7:
Since my voice has deserted me, I stay upstairs on my chaise longue. R. comes up to my room for coffee, is annoyed by the way the lower part of the face juts out, and jokes about how pleasant it is downstairs without a 'quarrelsome woman,' without me. I spend the day worrying about Lusch - that is, her character. I send off three letters to her, and after I have confided to R. what Mimi has to say, he also writes, seriously and nicely.
In the evening a brief chat in my room, various things about Bismarck, who has publicly castigated the town councillors. Then R. and Jouk. go downstairs to look at the new installments dealing with India.
