Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 29, 1880

Overview

R. returned to his early morning walks, and later they took a boat to the Villa Postiglione to see Joukowsky, who despite a fever had drafted a sketch for Parsifal's second act. The ride back with Malwida was brightened by the children waving from the road above, though R. was tired by evening and dwelt on Bismarck's brusque behavior in a diplomatic quarrel.

Content

Saturday, May 29:

R. resumes his early-morning walks. In the afternoon by boat to the Villa Postiglione, where our good friend Joukowsky, kept indoors by a fever, has nevertheless managed to work out a sketch for the 2nd act of Parsifal.

Return by boat with R. and Malwida; the children also returning from the Villa Postiglione, on the Posilipo road above, constantly waving to us.

R. somewhat tired in the evening; he tells us of the interlude between Herr v. Rudhart, the Bavarian ambassador, and Prince Bismarck, continually remarking on the attitude of Bismarck, who had nothing to say except, "I do not have to put up with that!"
