Wednesday, April 21:
R. slept well. Around noon we get ready and visit the Conservatoire, a nice room, nice friendly reception, nice choir, but the operetta...! R. suffers but is very forbearing.
It ends at 2 o’clock, and we take refreshments in Vermouth de Torino, where we meet Siegfried! We thought he was still in Cahadoli with the Liechtensteins. Much merriment, and then drive home via the Corso V. E. R., as always, increasingly delighted with Naples.
In the evening the first scenes of Hamlet (not the very first one) and some of Polonius.
Yesterday we happened to talk about Tasso, and R. says it is downright horrible the way he makes Tasso cling to Antonio; one gets utterly confused, not knowing what the author means by it.
