Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 20, 1880

Overview

After a restless night and uneasy dreams, R. talked at lunch about crime and the Camorra, even likening the Gospels to a crime tale. He then enjoyed an unusually long walk into and out of town, and later shared his vegetarian ideas with the Liechtensteins.

Tuesday, April 20:

R. did not have a good night, wild dreams, perhaps the result of our social activities, not always agreeable. At lunch he talks about the Camorra and about his fondness for crime stories: “The Gospels are also a crime story.”

We walk into town, take a carrozzella as far as Pincio’s, get out there, and return home on foot, a walk such as R. has not had for years. And he enjoys it.

In the evening the Liechtensteins; R. explains his views on vegetarianism, which he will set out in his next work.
