Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 20, 1880

Overview

The sunshine continued, but Lusch was too weak to stay up, and the day felt more subdued. Herr Joukowsky began work on my portrait in the afternoon, and R. later entertained the household with remarks from Gleizes before they ended quietly with whist.

Content

Friday, February 20:

Lovely weather still, sunshine and blossom, Lusch gets up again for an hour, but it does her no good, and she has to return to bed, very weak. Talking of the countryside here, R. mentions its wildness and thinks of German meadows, parks, German woods. Nothing like that here, just utter wilderness.

In the afternoon Herr Joukowsky comes and starts work on my portrait, in the evening R. tells us some things from his “delightful” Gleizes, and we conclude the evening with a game of whist.
