Wednesday, January 28:

R. had a bad night, and his discomfort is very great. Dr. Schron does not seem worried, but what help is that?

R. tells me something about the Roman Senate in connection with Regulus's widow; all I hear is what gives me pleasure, namely, that his thoughts are unaffected. He has a repugnance toward all medicines: "I see all these boxes, but what I lack is faith," he says. He gets up for a while in the evening but returns to bed again at once.
