Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 28, 1870

Overview

After a bad night, Cosima pushes herself into the day through care for Fidi and breakfast with Wagner. Illness interrupts the children’s lessons, and she turns instead to preparing a poem for Lusch to recite to Prince Wallerstein. A walk with Wagner and evening Schopenhauer reading frame a subdued day marked by fatigue and domestic duty.

Friday, January 28:

Not a good night, but I got out of bed swiftly to bathe Fidi and then to have breakfast in comfort with R. Then to the children; Lusch unwell, no lessons, I write down my poem for Prince Wallerstein, which Lusch is to recite to him on Sunday.

In the afternoon went for a walk with R. Unwell; in the evening read Schopenhauer.
