Saturday, December 13:

The powder, which made R.'s eyes better and also gave him a restful night, torments him in the early morning on Sunday, and he is very tired of the eternal compresses. But his eyes are still very bad, and we continue as before to read about the Talmudic Jews, with real amazement at their peculiar laws. R. remains in bed all day.
