Wednesday, November 5:
R. wakes up with a slight sore throat, so we send for the doctor, who confirms that the tonsils are swollen and advises gargling and rest. Bad news of Frau Feustel affects us very deeply, for we love this good woman.
R. intends to eat with us, but he feels very run down and can do no work; he stretches out in bed. I stay downstairs, awaiting friend Gersdorff, and Richter comes in, with a beaming face and spirits, the old Tribschen youth again. The children are overjoyed; R. calls him up to his bedside and then has supper with us on his account, talking much about the present agitation against the Jews.
After an hour R. goes off. Friend Gersdorff has also arrived, to tell me of many things he has on his mind; R. says to me jokingly that I am Macaria, the All Souls' woman - everyone comes to me.
