Diary Entry of December 4, 1869

Overview

Richard works and emerges excited, while Cosima spends the day with the children and later shops for Christmas in town. The errand leaves Richard chilled and ill, making him fear he cannot work the next day. Cosima ends by reviewing her life and praying for forgiveness and the grace to do good.

Saturday, December 4:

R. at work; afterward very excited. I with the children. After lunch to town to do some Christmas shopping. R. catches cold in the process and returns home very indisposed. He fears he will be unable to work tomorrow.

In the evening I consider my life and end with the prayer, “Forgive me the evil I have done in my life and on this day, and grant me the grace of still doing good.”
