Friday, May 3:
The trouble will still take several days to clear up! But R. works in spite of it. We hold a music rehearsal. On my return I find the tenor Herr Jäger in Wahnfried; he sings to R. “Lohengrin’s Narration,” with a good voice but all the mistakes in delivery usual in German opera houses. R. then sings it to him with that noble simplicity which allows the soul to speak directly to us.
After our guests have gone, R., having put on an amiable front in spite of his pain, reads to me the conclusion of his article, and we decide that it needs an additional ending. R. now writes such articles with reluctance and is glad not to have anything more to do for the Bayreuther Blätter until July. We also read Herr Löffler on Kundry.
