Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 26, 1877

Overview

R. enjoys a restful night and the writer feels deeply grateful, especially after receiving a manuscript of an early sonata and seeing R.'s portrait arrive from an exhibition. The day is productive and cheerful, with music, reading, and work continuing later than usual.

Content

Monday, November 26:

R. slept well! He told me recently that I cured him of worry; I thank thee, God, for that! Great joy in the gift of the manuscript of the Sonata in A Major, which the Gebrüder Hug have suddenly sent of their own free will. R. plays it, I like it, but R. suddenly has doubts about publishing his youthful works and this A Major Sonata.

We read a scene from Henry VI, Part II. R.’s portrait arrives from the exhibition. A really good, fine day, for R. worked as well; he continued with his work for more than an hour past his usual time, and we lunched happily at 2:15.
