R. kept working while several visitors came and went, giving the day a busy social rhythm. Bernays returned in the evening and listened to Parsifal read aloud, though R. was tired and longed for quiet time alone; the day also brought serious news of a friend’s illness.
Wednesday, October 17:
R. working, and several visitors. Frau von Staff means much to us. Prof. Bernays; in the evening R. reads Parsifal aloud. But he is tired and would like to be alone with me again.
