Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of October 6, 1877

Overview

R. worked while the diary-writer made progress on copying, and the evening ended with more Herodotus. He was irritated by the public airing of some compositions he considered beneath him, making it likely that the Idyll would have to be given up.

Content

Saturday, October 6:

R. works, and I ink in the second page. In the evening Herodotus. R. is very annoyed with Herr Tappert for producing the sonata and the Grenadiere in Berlin; he considers these compositions unworthy of him, and says that at the very most Fidi might publish them after our death as “curiosities.” But having them made known at this time is repugnant to him. And so the poor Idyll will probably have to be sacrificed!
