Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 24, 1877

Overview

The household settles back into ordinary work, with R. returning to composition and reflecting on how writing music always feels like starting over. He also drafts the school appeal, and the evening includes a visit from a patron who wants to place Dr. Fuchs in the school, all against the backdrop of news from the Russo-Turkish war.

Content

Monday, September 24:

Resumption of the usual routine. R. works, telling me that when he writes music he feels as if he were always beginning again from the start.

In the afternoon he writes his appeal for the school.

In the evening we are visited by a Herr von der Leeve, who was a patron and who requests an occupation in the school for Dr. Fuchs, whom he would be prepared to support. (Another Turkish victory over the Russians!!)
