Tuesday, May 22:

R.'s birthday! Very nice letters from all the children and all sorts of greetings besides.

In the evening a banquet, at which R. distributes the medallions which I gave him: probably the last work of Semper, the great master! Materna, Richter, Wilhelmj receive them.

R. speaks very movingly, expressing gratitude for his reception, and, quoting Semper, he compares moments with years, such moments, he says, make him forget the years. The celebrations otherwise a little loud, very German; Fidi's health is drunk!
