Diary Entry of April 21, 1877

Overview

Lessons filled the day, along with negotiations over the terms for using the Nibelungen, including royalties, an advance, and exclusive Austrian rights. In the evening, they turned to a play by Lope de Vega and enjoyed it greatly.

Saturday, April 21:

Gave the children lessons. R. writes to friend Standhartner, setting out the terms for the use of the Nibelungen: ten percent instead of seven; 20,000 marks as an advance, not as a gift; in return, exclusive rights for the Austrian monarchy. A letter from Councilor Dufflipp informs us that the King would like consideration to be given to the repayment of the money borrowed, for our theater.

In the evening we finish Lope de Vega’s La Carbonera with great interest and enjoyment.
