Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 12, 1877

Overview

They parted from their gracious host and heard unflattering stories about Bodenstedt on the way out. The return trip was festive with flowers, and the evening at home was quiet, with only some fatigue remaining.

Content

Monday, March 12:

Took our leave of the friendly, serious-minded gentleman, to whom R. could say in all honesty that he would like to give proof of his gratitude.

We were told very dismal things about the poet Bodenstedt, who, while still drawing his full salary, talks derogatorily about the Duke and his wife wherever he goes!

Departure at 10 o’clock, decorated with flowers, arrival at 4 o’clock, much to tell the children. In the evening felt well, though a little tired.
