Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 10, 1877

Overview

The visit continued with many formal honors, including music, rehearsal, and a banquet that went very pleasantly. In the afternoon and evening, court interactions became especially unusual, and the concert left R. feeling unwell toward the end.

Content

Saturday, March 10:

All kinds of marks of attention, quartet from Rheingold, military band, rehearsal in the palace of the Idyll, [Liszt’s] Festklänge and the Faust Overture.

Banquet at 2 o’clock, very pleasant. Afterward I am received by Princess Marie and by the Dowager Duchess, which seems very extraordinary in view of the hostility between the two Courts.

In the evening, court concert. R. unwell at the end.
