Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 3, 1877

Overview

Work continues, but his health and temper deteriorate, and bitterness takes over by evening. He turns away from the public sphere and resolves that once London is behind him, he wants little more to do with theaters or audiences.

Content

Saturday, March 3:

Work with the children, and R. in his room, working, as I thought, on Parsifal. But he is not well, and in the evening a mood of great bitterness again gets the upper hand. He wants to have nothing more to do with the public once London has been put behind him; then he will sell his Nibelungen work to all and sundry, since fragments of it are already being played all over the place anyway, and never give any more thought to a theater.
