Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 2, 1877

Overview

The day is filled with work involving the children, while disappointment grows over the singers needed for London. Hostile reactions from the press add to the irritation, and the evening shifts to a new reading project about India.

Content

Friday, March 2:

Continual work with the children; R. not exactly encouraged by the response of the singers who are wanted in London with him. He compares actors to a stag that does nothing as long as it is shy and frightened, but, if one is kind to it, butts one with its horns! A very malicious newspaper is sent to us from England, and there is also some mockery from Vienna.

In the evening we begin Lassen’s book on India.
