Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of October 6, 1876

Overview

Lessons with the children resumed, and much of what they had learned had already slipped away. A donkey ride to the Deserto turned into one of the day’s pleasures, and both R. and the diarist admitted that the children’s delight was the real joy of it; later came the welcome news that M. Tribert had deposited the 40,000 francs with the lawyer.

Content

Friday, October 6:

Picked up lessons with the children again; they have forgotten quite a bit! In the afternoon, a very lovely donkey ride to the Deserto. R. and I admit to each other that all our delight lies in the delight of the children; up above, a good Franciscan, splendid, most wretched kind. Merry ride home, my donkey called Fantasia! The driver promises it macaron tutto formaggio to liven it up.

In the margin: "Walk to the ravines."

At home the news that M. Tribert has deposited my 40,000 francs with the lawyer.
