Diary Entry of June 9, 1876

Overview

The staging rehearsal for the closing scene of Das Rheingold already makes a strong impression, and the atmosphere among the musicians seems almost electrified. Richter later reports that after the orchestra’s final rehearsal they broke into cheers, while R. comes back early from the piano rehearsal delighted with how well it has gone.

Friday, June 9:

Positioning rehearsal of conclusion of Das Rheingold, it already makes a very powerful impression! Richter tells me that on Saturday the 10th, after the final rehearsal of the orchestra alone, the entire orchestra broke out in cheers. All, with sparkling eyes, cheerful faces, say they are different people here, are literally coming to life. R. returns very early from the rehearsal of the Rheingold conclusion with piano, says it all went so well!
