Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 18, 1876

Overview

Spring arrived with the starlings, but R. felt ill and overburdened by Tristan in Berlin, the court cases, the lodging difficulties, Lohengrin in Vienna, and the American piece due by March 15. He was too exhausted even to read to me in the evening, and the question of whether the promised 5,000 dollars would ever come hung over everything.

Content

Friday, February 18:

Springtime, the starlings are here; but R. is unwell, he thinks because he has too many things on his mind — Tristan in Berlin, court cases, accommodation matters, Lohengrin in Vienna, on top of that the American composition is supposed to be finished by March 15! And will he be paid the 5,000 dollars anyway? He is so worn out that he cannot read to me in the evening.
