Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 15, 1876

Overview

R. discovered another contract swindle: in the Vienna agreement, the subscription income had been omitted, which could cut deeply into his royalties if the theater prospered. The injury stung all the more because he had trusted that the Berlin terms would be carried over correctly in writing. Work with the children continued, and R. wrote to Herr Jauner to complain.

Saturday, January 15:

It turns out that R. has once again been swindled in connection with a contract; in the contract with Vienna they have omitted the subscription proceeds, so that if the theater has a rise in its fortunes, and indeed most probably because of R., and the number of regular subscribers increases, R. will suffer a significant drop in royalties, just because he relied on having his stipulations, based on the Berlin arrangement, taken into account in writing as well as in conversation! ...

Work with the children and dictation. R. writes to Herr Jauner, complaining of this.
