Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 18, 1875

Overview

Back in their own home, she enjoyed a rare good night’s sleep and spent the morning sorting letters and business while the children played outside. Feustel came with concerns about Batz and Fürstner, and together they learned that Prince Bismarck had canceled the 30,000 thalers the Emperor might have lent from Reich funds. The evening was colored by the arrival of the two older girls from boarding school, with Blandine affectionate and Daniella already causing alarm.

Saturday, December 18:

Very good night in our own home! The children are out in the garden early; I write some letters, put business matters in order. Friend Feustel comes to discuss Batz, Fürstner; he and I know, but R. not yet, that Prince Bismarck has canceled the 30,000 thalers which the Emperor would have been willing to lend from Reich funds!!!

In the evening the “two big girls” arrive from the boarding school, Blandine affectionate and gentle, Daniella’s behavior downright alarming.
