Overview

R. ran a rehearsal of the first scene and was more pleased with Herr Labatt than he had expected, though Herr Bignio as the Wolf Ram proved nearly unbearable. In the evening they saw Sardou’s Andrea, badly written but gracefully acted by Frau Niemann, and later talked with her at Jauner’s about her husband’s foolish conduct in Bayreuth, which now seems to be behind them.

Monday, November 8:

R. holds a rehearsal of the first scene; he is more satisfied with Herr Labatt than he expected to be, but Wolfram (Herr Bignio) causes him tremendous trouble.

In the evening we go together to see Andrea, an excessively bad play by Sardou, though acted very nicely by Frau Niemann.

Together with her in the evening at Herr Jauner’s, we discussed her husband’s absurd behavior in Bayreuth; I think that this stupidity is now safely past!
