Overview

The day is consumed by orthopedic examinations and exercises, which must be handled with great care, though a pleasant visit from Minister Gerstenberg offers some relief. In the evening we go to the theater, where the play is foolish and coarse, but the children still enjoy themselves.

Saturday, October 16:

In the morning and afternoon orthopedic examinations and exercises, caution very necessary. The minister Herr V. Gerstenberg, a benefactor of this little duchy, calls on me; very pleasant conversation.

At the theater in the evening. Wretched play by Herr Schweitzer (Socialist!), crude and silly. But the children, for whom it was intended, enjoyed themselves.
