Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 5, 1875

Overview

Fiirstner’s behavior continues to dominate the household, and R. is once more infuriated by what he sees as the trickery that shadows every contract. An unexpected visit from Netty Mrazek brings distressing stories about persecution at the music school, where Rheinberger and Perfall allegedly harassed her husband and even barred Wagner’s music, before the evening settles into a reading of Kundry’s curse in Wolfram.

Content

Sunday, September 5:

Last night and this morning belonged to Herr Fürstner. R. feels much indignation, and once again it is revealed how incapable he is of doing business; every contract leads to trickery.

In the afternoon R.’s former servant Netty Mrazek turns up quite unexpectedly - she had never seen Fidi! She tells how Herr Rheinberger, Perfall, etc., tormented and persecuted her poor husband in the music school, because he had been appointed by us. Herr Rheinberger forbids a single note of Wagner to be played in the school!

In the evening we read Kundry’s curse on Parzival in Wolfram [von Eschenbach].
