Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of July 10, 1875

Overview

The family rose early and traveled to Bayreuth, where Daniella’s likeness to her father moved the writer deeply. After lunch with the children, she returned to practical worries about books, clothing, and rehearsal, while the locked-away children and the unanswered issue of Frau v. Schl.’s lodging added to her embarrassment.

Content

Saturday, July 10:

Up early, left about 10 o’clock, in Bayreuth at 1 o’clock. Daniella touches me very much with her resemblance to her father; lunch with all the children at table; then, for me, checking books, checking children’s clothes, and rehearsal with supper.

The children in a separate room and locked out! ... Councilor DiifH. does not reply regarding the custodian’s apartment for Frau v. Schl. - a great embarrassment to me.
