Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 31, 1875

Overview

After making purchases, the day brought a visit from Count Hohenthal-Buchau and another round of R.’s reading in Gorres, though he remained unconvinced by it. The Count later came to tea just as Unger appeared as well, leaving open once again the uneasy question of whether he might be their Siegfried.

Content

Monday, May 31:

Various purchases for R. and myself. Visit from Count Hohenthal-Buchau.

R. starts on Görres’s Mysticism without finding any particular enjoyment in it; he declares himself more and more convinced of how necessary it is for the Germans to know Schopenhauer.

In the afternoon I drive to the theater with the Count; in the evening he comes to tea with us, at the same time as Herr Unger. Is he our Siegfried??
