Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 1, 1875

Overview

The day was consumed by paying wages and confronting the disturbing realization that the old staff had not been as trustworthy as once believed, though there was hope that some order had been restored. The coming journey kept everyone busy, and the evening brought Herr v. Reichenberg from Mannheim, a cordial singer engaged for Fafner, while the household was briefly startled by Boni's April Fool tricks.

Thursday, April 1:

Paying wages and gaining an ever-increasing insight into the baseness of our previous personnel, in whom we placed complete trust. I hope order has now been restored. Constantly busy with our forthcoming journey.

In the evening, a singer for Fafner, Herr v. Reichenberg from Mannheim, a pleasant, friendly man with a fine voice. (Boni making April fools of us.)
