Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 31, 1875

Overview

The morning was taken up with household purchases and Richard’s flurry of telegrams about the Berlin concert and whether Materna would take part. In the evening they turned to music, hearing Beethoven’s second cello sonata from Op. 102, whose adagio delighted them both, while Richard was especially taken with the scherzo from the A-major sonata. The day felt practical at first and then resolved into music and concentration.
