Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 27, 1875

Overview

Letters and household concerns occupied much of the day before a long rehearsal from afternoon into evening boxes filled with aristocratic listeners. The music continued to surge forward despite lingering signs of unrest in the orchestra, and the day ended quietly at home with Materna praised and Glatz sounding weak.

Content

Saturday, February 27:

Received and answered letters; many domestic cares. Rehearsal from two until six o’clock, in my box the Countesses Andrassy, Donhoff, Widenburg, Amadei. It goes well, though there are still signs of rebellion in the orchestra. Materna splendid, Glatz neither very laudable nor very audible! Utterly overwhelming impression!

Spent the evening at home.
