Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 22, 1875

Overview

Sleep came only to R., while the writer lay awake in anxious thoughts about the house. The day moved through visits and spectacle, from Makart’s astonishingly cluttered studio to a not entirely disastrous evening at Fidelio, capped by another sighting of Uncle Liszt.

Monday, February 22:

R. slept very well; I not at all, thinking anxiously about the house. Calls with R.; to Makart’s astonishing studio, a sublime lumber-room. To Angeli’s; in the evening to Fidelio, not too atrocious a performance. R. not with me. (Saw Uncle Liszt again.)
