Overview

A miserable day is made worse by treatment from a clumsy surgeon, first leeches and then a burn from creosote, which leaves R. depressed and confined indoors. The children lift his spirits with singing, and he joins them in a three-part song with Lusch and Boni.

Tuesday, January 19:

R. not well, has to have leeches applied, is scorched with creosote by a clumsy surgeon, has a bad day; since he has not been out for several days, he feels depressed, but the children cheer him up with their singing, and he himself sings “Den Herrn meine Seele” with Lusch and Boni in three voices.
