Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 26, 1874

Overview

The day is quieter after the holiday, marked by sleep, household routines, and a slight ache for the absence of music. In the evening, a reading on early Christianity gives both of them a sense of distance from the modern world and a renewed appreciation for older, more serious minds.

Content

Saturday, December 26:

Slept deeply and long. In the morning we complain at hearing no music. R. works with great reluctance on his letter to Fritzsch about the Jessonda performance. I write some letters; the children play.

In the evening R. reads to me from the preface of Gfrorer’s book on primitive Christianity. It pleases us greatly, and R. says, "One is consorting with entirely different people from those of today."
