Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 12, 1874

Overview

R. wrestles with the unending labor of shaping his manuscript, annoyed that even after finishing the score he must still add more introductions and endings. Amid Christmas errands, there is relief when Lusch apologizes sincerely, easing the day's strain and softening the household mood.

Saturday, December 12:

R. has trouble with his manuscript: no sooner is the score completed than he has again to write “introductions” and “endings” to the various “pieces” — “Oh, Germania!” he exclaims.

I still have several Christmas purchases to make.

In the evening Lusch gives me pleasure by sincerely begging my pardon, which profoundly relieves me.

In the evening no Kant-Schopenhauer. R. is thinking more and more about his educational plan.
