Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 26, 1874

Overview

R. is still too unwell to work, and she carries the children’s routine while guests and practical advice about the sgraffito come and go. The evening is marked by a kind of private enchantment with the moonlight, which she longs to savor and he only half-reluctantly allows into their room.

Content

Saturday, September 26:

Again a very wretched night for R., who has now been unable to work for some days. I spent the morning with the children as usual.

In the afternoon sent them to the Eremitage; in the evening a visit from Professor Schulz, an architect from Würzburg, who gives us some advice regarding our sgraffito.

Magical moonlight. I leave my little gray room; I should like to enjoy it all night, but R. does not wish it. However, during the night he does pull back the curtains.
