Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 25, 1874

Overview

Both are exhausted by a bad night, and R. is shaken by a dream of being abandoned, even as he finds comfort in watching Fidi. The day stays subdued, with childcare, a walk, and a little reading, but little real recovery for him.

Friday, September 25:

For both of us, a very bad night. R. also dreamed that I wanted to leave him together with Fidi, and he could only resolve silently never to let me for a moment out of his sight.

He cannot work and is despondent, but always finds pleasure in Fidi; he says it is a perpetual joy to watch him. I work with the children. In the afternoon walked up to the theater with R. and the children.

Fine evening, but R. unfortunately not well. No reading except for some bits from a book of sketches about St. Petersburg society, very trivial.
