Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 9, 1874

Overview

The children’s historical recital and the cordial farewell to their sponsors gave the day a family-centered tone, while scaffolding for the house decoration finally went up. The writer still had a stack of letters to answer, R. remained occupied with work, and the day ended in fatigue.

Content

Wednesday, September 9:

Isolde surprised us yesterday with a complete historical lecture, which Fidi brought to an end (it was about the quarrel between Louis the Pious and his sons) with the remark, “They squabbled as in a chicken coop.”

Farewell visit from our friendly sponsors, who were extremely kind to the children. Erection of the scaffolding for the sgraffito. Discussed all sorts of things with “Cousin” Krausse.

I with many letters to write, R. doing some work on the score. Great tiredness.
