Her day was consumed by correspondence and practical errands, including Fidi’s birthday preparations and a formal request tied to Lulu’s confirmation. Beneath the routine, however, R.’s physical weakness and her own worry about money made the household feel precarious, and his resentment over the lack of a birthday present added another strain.
Tuesday, May 26:
Lusch writes to her father in Florence, asking his blessing for her confirmation. I write all kinds of letters. R. thanks the King for his telegram. He is very worn out.
We pay some calls together and buy things for Fidi’s birthday. In the evening R. is very indisposed.
