With Frau v. M. gone, she spent the day in the company of Marie Donhoff, absorbing conversation and keeping her own pain carefully unspoken. The evening brought music and talk, but also a sharp reminder of artistic vanity when Marie reported the Crown Princess’s complaint about R.’s music.
Saturday, May 23:
Frau v. M. leaves; all day with Marie Donhoff, listening to her outpourings, my pain stays unexpressed. The painter nothing.
In the evening Marie Donhoff plays very beautifully. She tells us the Crown Princess said R.’s music gave her a headache.
