Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 29, 1874

Overview

After the intensity of moving, she returns to the diary with both relief and heaviness, noting a cheerful first lunch in the new home while carrying worries about distant illness. The news of her friend’s condition and Hans’s sickness in Moscow darkens an otherwise orderly day of settling in.

Wednesday, April 29:

Night. In the morning another conference, contracts signed, cordial leave-taking from all participants.

Our first lunch, very happy and gay, all in good health. I pick up this book again after a break of 10 days. Heavy on my heart lie the mortal sickness of my distant friend and the report in a newspaper that Hans has fallen ill in Moscow! Early to bed.
