Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 18, 1874

Overview

Spring storms and domestic responsibilities cast a melancholy shadow over the day, though the children remain a source of comfort. In the evening, a historical-religious reading gives the pair something intellectually absorbing to share, and the Bayreuth auction plans continue in the background.

Content

Wednesday, March 18:

Spring storms and many domestic cares, great melancholy, yet pleasure in the children.

In the evening R. reads me from Freytag’s book about Myconius’s visit to Tetzel and the business of the indulgences—very interesting.

Marie Schl. is organizing, not tableaux, but an auction of pictures in aid of Bayreuth.
